Hornby 1/76 LNER – "West Riding Limited" – Open Third & Brake Third – Coach Pack
Following the success of LNER’s ‘Coronation’ trains in 1935, the West Riding Limited was introduced in 1937 to provide express services between London King’s Cross, Leeds, and Bradford. The train consisted of four twin-articulated coaches, built to the same high standard as the ‘Coronation’, though without the streamlined beavertail observation car. The paired coaches shared a bogie to reduce friction and improve ride quality.
The inaugural run took place on 27th September 1937, hauled by Gresley ‘A4’ No. 4492 Dominion of New Zealand, achieving an average speed of 63.3?mph (101.9?km/h) between King’s Cross and Bradford. Services were suspended during the Second World War but reinstated in 1949. Today, a modern version of the train continues to operate on the same route from Bradford Forster Square.
This OO gauge model pack represents the final pair of the original rake – an Open Third Class coach with lavatory and a Third Class brake coach with guard’s compartment. These finely detailed coaches faithfully replicate the style and function of the original West Riding Limited vehicles, making them an excellent addition to any historic LNER layout.
